Audiology Supplement Outcomes March 2017

Objective 1:  5 LT trainees, 2 MT and 6 ST

Objective 2:  5 LT trainees attended Key Concepts and Grand Rounds; 5 attended the JFK fall workshop; 5 LT trainees participated in Grand Rounds each semester; 5 FT trainees attended the Early Hearing Detection and Intervention Conference (EHDI) and received 14 hours of instruction.

Objective 3:  7 attended “ASD for Audiology” by Lindsey DeVries and “Audiology Assessment for ASD” by Christine Yoshinaga-Itano

Objective 4:  The experience in audiologic screening and assessment were tracked for each trainee by clinical hours and number of children assessed with ASD/DD.  The AuD students in their 4th year of their AuD program received the most experience with this population (see Below)

Trainee clinical hours # of children accessed
LT 620 1100
TS 700 1230
CL 700 1230
KW 240 400
MP 240 400
ZB 240 400

Objective 5:  All experience reflected above was supervised by clinical mentors who are practicing clinical audiologists at The Children’s Hospital Colorado and the Marion Downs Center.  All clinical practicum by trainees included a minimum 50% direct supervision.  Competencies were evaluated and feedback given to trainees and their Universities twice each semester.  Final assessment of each trainee will be given at the conclusion of their training year.

Objective 6:  An In-service teleconference, “Assessing and managing Children with ASD and Hearing Loss” is scheduled April, 2017 presented by Christie Yoshinaga-Itano, Deborah Mood, Amy Szarkowski, and Amy Frisbee.

Objective 7:  Longitudinal developments outcomes of children with hearing loss are collected and managed by ongoing research in Christie Yoshinaga-Itano’s lab at the University of Colorado Boulder.  The goal to improve reporting of the diagnosis of other developmental disabilities have been the focus in this start-up year.    An article was revised and is under review with Pediatrics and includes the predictor variables of outcomes of children with and without additional disabilities.  Earlier identification and enrollment into early intervention services was a significant predictor of developmental outcomes for both groups.

Objective 8:  5 LT trainees participated in the Key Concepts Course; 5 LT trainees presented poster presentations of their scholarly projects at the EHDI Conference.
